KNOW YOUR ACNE

The right way to treat all kinds of blemishes

LET’S FIND YOUR ACNE TYPE

Acne comes in all shapes and sizes. Treating it right depends on the type.

non-inflamed closed pore

Clogged Pore

A thin layer of skin covers the pore. Use a needle to gently prick it open before squeezing out the yucky stuff

Characteristic

    - Not red

    - Covered by skin

    - Squeezable

NON-INFLAMED OPEN PORE

Whitehead / Blackhead

Press it out! Sanitize a blemish extractor, place the loop around the pore, and gently press.

Characteristic

    - White or black dot

    - May be slightly raised

    - Not red

    - Squeezable

INFLAMED WITHOUT PUS

Papule

No touchy! Wait for it to come to a head (it could be a while), then pop it with an extractor.

Characteristic

    - Red and inflamed

    - Buried under the skin

    - No visible pus or head

INFLAMED WITH PUS

Pustule + Nodule

Pus is where nasty bacteria hides. Pop it all out with a sanitized extractor. (Don’t squeeze, please.)

Characteristic

    - Red and swollen

    - Visible white pus

    - Tender or painful

THE LIFE & DEATH OF A PIMPLE

Day 3: The Future is Clear

Redness and swelling are starting to improve. Acne will either shrink or develop protruding whiteheads.

    Day 4: A Gentle Pop

Got whiteheads or pustules with visible white stuff? Use a blemish extractor to press out pus until the fluid looks clear or the surface of the blemish looks flat. Get it all out—leftover stuff can result in new acne or scarring.

    Day 5: Bye, Blackheads

If you see protruding blackheads, you can gently press them out with an extractor or wait for them to fall off. Your call.

    Day 7: Papule Control

If after a week, you still have buried papules, seek the help of a dermatologist for extractions. We don’t recommend trying this at home, but if you have to, here’s the safest extraction method. Sanitize a needle, impale the highest point of the pimple, and gently cut the top open. Press on either side of the blemish to extract deep pus. Repeat after 48 hours if still visible.
